Non-Exam Assessments, NEAs (Coursework)
NEAs are a form of internal assessment, similar to old-style coursework, that are used in qualifications where it is the only valid means of assessing essential knowledge and skills that cannot be tested through traditional written exams. These include skills assessed through longer project-style tasks as well as practical assessments in subjects like Art, Drama, Music, PE and Photography.
Over half of the courses for Year 10 students have a component of NEA that forms part of the final grade. The document below shows all the subjects for Year 10 students that include an NEA component, along with start dates and percentages of the final grade that the NEA is worth. Subjects with NEAs completed in Year 10 have specific deadline dates while NEAs due for completion in Year 11 will be given deadline dates in September 2026.
It is important to recognise that whilst some NEA components may seem to be worth relatively small percentages of the final grade, students can often secure an improved final grade through consistent effort and performance on their NEA; it is also possible for final results to fall by a number of grades should students perform poorly in NEAs.

Exam Equipment
The equipment required by students in mock and final exams is similar to that needed each day in school.
|
2 black pens |
Clear ruler |
Protractor (angle measurer) |
| Sharp pencil | Rubber | Compasses |
| Scientific calculator | Highlighter | 3 colouring pencils |
This should all be stored securely in a clear, colourless, pencil case that is free from patterns or designs. Here are illustrations of the types of pencil cases allowed and not allowed in exams.
Students should recognise that exam boards require that they write in black ink and they should not use erasable pens, gel pens or highlighters as part of their answers. Students can complete diagrams and graphs in pencil. Exam board rules also state that calculator lids are not allowed to be brought to exam desks for exams.
It is advised that students have a water bottle so they can stay hydrated and focussed in their exams. Water bottles need to be clear, colourless and without labels. Students should place their water bottles on the floor next to their desk when they are not drinking from them. Here are illustrations of the types of water bottle allowed and not allowed in exams.
