Sociology
Studying Sociology at Cedars gives students the opportunity to delve deeper into society and understand how it functions and why. Sociology aims to empower students to be able to discuss and debate how culture, experience, society and politics affect our understanding of the wider world around us and our experience of that world. Students will leave with a wider understanding of the relationship between the individual and society, and the many influences that may shape and change an individual.
We expect our students to be critical and reflective, and to become engaged, independent learners. We encourage our students to not only be able to link their subject knowledge to their own experiences within society but also explore a diverse range of experiences, to develop
tolerance and understanding of a wide range of viewpoints.
Sociology students are expected to be able to draw on a wide range of evidence and theory and to apply them to a range of scenarios and research, concluding on their validity. We teach them to be independent, thoughtful and engaged with the world and the issues around them.
